Ultimate East Coast Baseball trip - Day 2

August 10, 2015 by Ryan Darden

Meet the Mets! Today was actually about the game.  We got to see Bryce Harper ejected!  We got to see extra innings! (Free Sports!) And the guy who cried on the field for the Mets ended up winning the game!  What a game!  And dad thought CitiField was the best stadium he has been to.  (Mostly for the many options we had for food)

Of course one of the more interesting parts of the game were these two Mets fans.

They'd had a little too much fun at the game.  Then their buddies wanted to show them the love with a nice ketchup heart on one of their buddy's shoulders.  Stay classy, Mets fans!

Ultimate East Coast Baseball trip: Day 1 - Fenway

August 01, 2015 by Ryan Darden

Well, we made it to Boston.  And tried to check into our hotel. They tried to give my dad & I a room with a bunkbed. Really? Are my dad and I 12 year old boys? But since this is a trap for my dad I refuse to fight him over the top bunk.  (Inheritance here I come!) I'm not even going to acknowledge that hotel in this post. Needless to say we moved hotels over to the Onyx.  Then we went and ate pizza at Regina Pizzeria.  We got Gates'd over there.  "How many?" Two. "Sit over there!" Damn. That attitude seems to have been there as long as the pizza, 1926.

The town seems to be pissed about Brady.  Guess he's not pitching for the Red Sox? Something like that. "Free Taaaamh!"

Went to the game Thursday night at Fenway.  My dad called it 'cozy'. And by that he meant small wooden seats that were built for Americans in the 1920's. Not for our high fructose corn syrup Americans. But he was excited to see Fenway. He claims that and Wrigley are his favorites. And by that he meant oldest.

We had half of Southie trying to squeeze into the seats behind us. That's about the time I assumed I would end up buying beers for the entire row after my pops tells them where they can go. Luckily they spent most of the night in line for beer or Shazam'ing Kenny Loggins Danger Zone. They were even nice enough to try and take a picture of us.

So Dad's overall rating of Fenway - great, except for the tiny, wooden seats. Tomorrow we head to Citi Field to watch the Mets.

Ultimate East Coast Baseball trip

July 24, 2015 by Ryan Darden

My dad has been a baseball fan his whole life.  He grew up listening to it on the radio out in the middle of West Texas.  Back in that day while baseball wasn't really west of the Mississippi he could get baseball broadcasts on a good night out there.  He became a big Brooklyn Dodgers fan. (for awhile when I was growing up we collected baseball cards and we got him any Brooklyn ones we could get our hands on) Eventually he left West Texas and went to seminary in Kansas City.  While he was there the Royals became an expansion team.  He and a buddy decided to check out the very first Royals game ever.  He stayed a fan and I became one as well.  All that being said now that he has gotten a little older and semi-retired he has been trying to get to as many baseball stadiums as he can.  Two summers ago I figured out a weekend where we could hit Southern California for a long weekend and we saw games in San Diego (Padres), Anaheim (Angels), and Los Angeles (Dodgers).

This summer I was able to find another great baseball trip.  I'm taking him to 6 different ballparks on the East Coast in 6 different days. We're going to Fenway (Red Sox), Citi Field (Mets), Citizen Bank Park (Phillies), Camden Yards (Orioles), Nationals Park (duh), and Yankee Stadium (you know this one too).

This starts next week and I'm going to document it here. 6 games in 6 days in 5 cities (+1 extra borough). And now that I see that pretty much comes to 666, let's hope this isn't the trip from hell.
